History

Welcome to Daily Bread

In 1996, Seth Kuehn, a former farmer and vending business owner, had been alarmed by the significant amount of food waste he observed daily while working his vending business. At the same time, Seth and a group from his church were supporting pastors on San Antonio’s eastside by taking them to a men’s conference in Dallas. While on this trip, Seth heard these pastors share the struggles their congregants faced with food insecurity. It was in that moment that Seth felt a calling to act—an idea planted by God to start rescuing discarded food and providing it to these pastors so they could, in turn, support their community members in need.

They envisioned a partnership that would build upon the existing churches’ relationships and access within their own communities to distribute food and, therefore, resolve the problem of hunger. It was from this vision that Daily Bread Ministries was formed. Initially operating out of Mr. Keuhn’s garage with a handful of volunteers, Daily Bread Ministries distributed food from vendors to inner city churches, who then were able to distribute into their local communities. The movement to empower pastors and their churches was born.
