Education

Our approach to education is inspired by the principles outlined in When Helping Hurts by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert. This groundbreaking book advocates for a holistic strategy to poverty alleviation, emphasizing the empowerment of individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and enhance their communities. It underscores the importance of leveraging local resources, collaborating with community partners, and addressing both physical and spiritual needs to drive profound, lasting change.

We empower our partners to go beyond addressing the symptoms of poverty, such as hunger, and educate them on how to better support people living in poverty. Only then can we expect to see transformative impact and change in these communities where we serve through God’s work.

Food

Weekly food distributions are a central part of Daily Bread’s mission. Our streamlined process begins with refrigerated trucks collecting fresh and shelf-stable food from local schools, produce vendors, catering agencies, and wholesale suppliers. This food is transported to our warehouse, equipped with large refrigeration and freezer units that ensure its quality. Three times a week, we then distribute this vital food supply to a network of dedicated partners, including local churches with food pantries, transitional housing facilities, rehab centers, and children’s outreach programs who then distribute the food to their local communities.

This continuous flow of nourishment not only sustains individuals but also fortifies community support systems, ensuring that the most vulnerable among us have access to essential resources. Through this dynamic distribution model, we transform food into a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change. This is where connections are forged, creating opportunities to build relationships that drive further life change.

Training

At Daily Bread, we embrace a “train the trainer” model that empowers our partners to go beyond simply distributing food and, instead, offer courses that help people find freedom through education. We offer two transformative courses, which are taught to our Ministry Partners. In turn, they can bring these courses back to their churches or ministries to use with those they meet through their food pantries.

The first course, Faith and Finances, teaches participants about God’s perspective on money. Only when we align our understanding of finances with His will can we begin to change our financial behaviors. From there, we cover practical skills like budgeting, tracking spending, predatory lending, and understanding the difference between needs and wants.

The second course, Raising Highly Capable Kids, focuses on the 40 developmental assets every child needs. It helps parents—many of whom may have never received this guidance—develop crucial parenting skills. This course has the power to break the cycle of poverty by equipping parents with the knowledge to make better decisions when raising their children.

Rather than simply addressing symptoms like hunger, we are committed to equipping our partners with the tools and knowledge to tackle the root causes of poverty. Our approach focuses on lasting, transformative change, aiming to create a deep impact in the communities we serve, all through the grace and guidance of God’s work.
